Calculating Results After Weight Loss Surgery

Glossary

Initial Weight  (Weight before surgery)

Ideal Weight (look up based upon table using your height and sex)

The question????

How much of the initial amount that you were overweight, have you lost?

(example– if you were 100 pounds overweight and lost 50 pounds, you lost half or 50% of the amount you were overweight to begin with)

The formulas

Initial Excess Weight “EW” =  Initial Weight—Ideal Weight

Weight Loss “WL”= Initial Weight—Current Weight

%excess weight lost  “%EWL”(percent excess weight lost)

= total weight lost divided by initial excess weight x 100

  example a Woman 64 inches, 331 lbs. , ideal weight= 131 lbs.

Initial excess weight EW = 331-131 = 200 lbs.

One year later she weighs 181, she lost 150 lbs( WL Weight Lost)

Her %EWL = 150 / 200  x 100  =   75 %

She lost 3/4 or 75%  of the amount she was overweight

Calculate your BMI (body mass index) and compare it to the table below
compare it before and after surgery
